As one who travels for a living, I've eaten at well over 300 restaurants across the entirety of the US in the past year.
Best home cooked food in town. The ladies here make you feel like they are cooking for you in their home. The cheesecake is great also!
The service was second to none, with the cooks communicating in real time when certain dishes had sold out. I'm sure this is a result of the popularity of this little gem, not a shortage of supplies! Although I'd be surprised if they buy ingredients in bulk like other restaurants, as everything is THAT fresh. It's obvious everyone involved, including the loyal patronage, carries a sense of pride in the food and atmosphere. Good humans hang out here.
Upon walking in, this place is clearly the calculated result of a true professional. Coffee with evaporated milk instead of cream? Check. Poboys with meaningful options (I was recommended the roast beef - just wow, whowhatwhenwherehowinthe)? Check. And the Shrimp & Grits was packaged (to-go order) in a way so as to seal in the moisture (flavor). I was blown away. The most flavorful grits anywhere. I wish I could stay longer in Lafayette just to keep enjoying the food here.
Ladies are super sweet and remember you by name, pretty impressive in this day and age. Their gumbo is very good and I'm pretty snobby about my gumbo.
