Almost 2 months ago I submitted a "request" to change doctors and still have the same one. After 20 years of seeing him, I think it's time to actually get treatment. I can longer just put it off. If it weren't for the new clinic he still wouldn't have sent me for an xray. 3+ years from nearly passing out at work I finally got diagnosed from someone else. I tried to see a mental health professional from the VA for anxiety. All she wanted to talk about was my gun ownership. That lowered my expectations and increased my anxiety. The VA still hasn't covered the ER visits that could have been avoided. Obviously this will be ignored because I'm just a bother. I am really regretting my service now. Complete complacency, staff is using a revolving door; always new people asking how or what to do. My doctor refusing to treat or even get vaccinations. Why do "I" have to request a new doctor? I don't have the right to seek treatment from someone that might be able to keep me healthy. Instead my condition has progressed. I will never feel healthy again. I will never be functional again. My family will never see me smile again. They will only ever see me as so angry. I have tried to use other services for finding work. I am referred to websites that are advertisements for the va but they don't DO anything. looped screens. I have been in crisis for over 2 years, I have been diagnosed with trust issues by a Spanish accented therapist that thinks Americans shouldn't have guns. Probably more so for veterans. FTVa. I have gone in to see my professional for a 10:30 appointment, that I missed work for, only to find out after 5pm that he wasn't coming in at all. I have more negative to say but I'm still trying to survive another day.
Nice facility, service is lacking at best. First issue, this facility no longer takes walk-ins for labs. You can only schedule labs during normal business hours and if you work, good luck. Second, if you receive a "script" for therapy, it will probably run out and good luck getting an extension. The VA will pass the buck when asked about extending therapy. This leads to the last issue, good luck seeing a doctor. You are better off calling and leaving a message for your doctor than going in. If you are lucky, the nurse may call you back a week later. Now, I realize that the VA is a federal agency and it is known for incompetence and "red tape", but I've always felt the staff in Lafayette went above and beyond for the local Vets. This is no longer the case. They upgraded the facility, but downgraded the service.
It's definitely an upgrade from its previous location. Very clean. Right when you walk in, their are people helping you check in and directing you where to go. Because there is no PA system, you MUST sit near the area you are visiting. For example, I needed Lab work done. I walked in, checked in on the kiosks, and sat on the opposite site of the building from where lab is. They had called my name and I did not hear. I wished they would of put more effort into finding me, but there are other people they have to get to. I understand. There are people here hard of hearing so I hope that they can find a way to accommodate them, or call there name again after seeing two people. Overall just sit in the right spot, and you should have no problem with that part. The staff seems to be nice. Idk about the other areas, but so far so good. Bonus: walking up to the clinic, there was a man outside playing an instrument honoring the different branches.
Seems like some people always have something negative to say about the VA but they have taken good care of me and I have always had a great experience. The new facility is top notch!!
This place is an absolute joke. I've been seen by the doctor a few times which has not helped at all for my medical problems. Doc say Im going to prescribe you so and so medicine. Then I never get the medicine. I get lab work done. Then I dont get the results of the lab work. Screw this place!!!!!!
